Water Gardens

This page is a work in progress.

Early, early spring, before the ice has even melted.  Leaves have not dropped from the three-flowered maple.  Lit by solar lamps, this is our pond waiting for the awakening of a world kissed by spring.

A few years ago my son put in a pond complete with waterfall.  He was working in the pond area at the greenhouse and taking a landscaping course at school at the time.  What better experience than to do firsthand, right?  I am so glad he did!

We love to sit around the fire at night with the sound of the waterfall close by.  It is incredible.  I cherish those moments there.  During the day robins, chickadees, sparrows and others bathe in the stream as it runs down from the waterfall to the pond.  It drowns out the city noises of construction and traffic and offers a soothing meditation no matter the time of day.

Many local greenhouses carry supplies including liner, pumps and plants to start your own pond.  Look for variety and well-labelled marginal and submersible aquatic plants.

For the serious gardener who wants a large stream with a few waterfalls, here is an excellent series:

The following instructional videos were prepared by The Pond Digger.  Part 1:  Prepping the Area and Making a Large Reservoir (matrix boxes)

Now all that is left is the landscaping around the water feature.
