The Teal Pumpkin

Have you seen these?  Teal is the new colour of Halloween folks.  That is, a teal pumpkin.  When placed on your doorstep on Halloween it indicates you have non-food items to offer.  The Teal Pumpkin Project is an inspired initiative that started in 2014 by Food Allergy Research and Education to educate the public and promote the inclusion of individuals with food allergies and sensitivities and those who cannot eat candy.

You can go to foodallergycanada.ca to download a copy of the Teal Pumpkin Project poster to place in your window on Halloween to let children/families know you have non-food treats available.  Halloween should be fun for all children and by participating, you make it that much easier.

Which decor is the most.

The neighbour whose yard is shown below outdoes himself each year.  The web is new and a few other items.  He seems to take great joy in decorating for Halloween.  You may recognize this yard from a previous post.  Here's a closer look:

 Another neighbour dressed up this head with a witch's hat.  In this yard there's a witch by the front door, and a mini-graveyard opposite this head.

This neighbour has a black tarp draped near the entrance to the house. The sidewalk is dotted with pumpkins, headstones and such.

  How scary it would be to walk under this tarp to get your treat.

Can you spot the large spider at the doorway below?  I think the shadow is rather a frightening addition.  Maybe a good addition to Shadow Shot Sunday?

This yard below appeals to the younger children...

oh, maybe disregard that comment.  I see the beheaded skull and other creepy skull but other than that....

Our neighbourhood has gone to the ghouls and goblins!  What is yours doing?

Taking the Fright Outdoors

We started watching the progress on this project and over a few days the home owner

added many interesting touches such as grave sites complete with markers.....

this humongous spider web..............

open house for the haunted home....

 and more frightening touches at the entrance....

until he achieved this effect......

This is the most decorated yard in our neighbourhood.  Each year the owner adds a little something more.  It is eerily lit at night too.  I wonder who enjoys it more, the "designer" or the trick-or-treaters? 

If I remember correctly, he goes all out for Christmas too.

Rather inspiring, in a manner of speaking, don't you think?

All Hallow's Eve Decor

Decorating for Halloween can be a fun event, particularly with young children in the house...

Now we are all mostly young at heart...

This mummied character to the left actually has a place on top of his head to hold treats.

The witch was purchased at a local grocery store, believe it or not.

This jack o lantern, when switched on, emits eerie Halloween sounds and its eyes flash.  A fun little item purchased from "The Nut Man".  He would come around to the businesses in our area selling his wares which included candy, sesame snacks, and fun seasonal items.

My now empty cornucopia to the right.  I still like how it looks so I will keep it here for a bit yet.  A geranium sits as centerpiece on the dining table.  It will be inside again this winter and hopefully I will be able to keep it looking this good until spring.  Last winter it got very spindly so I cut it back in the spring, rooted the cuttings and now it is full.  You should see it in bloom!  I posted photos earlier this year for Fertilizer Friday. I use seaweed fertilizer which it absolutely loves!

This last witch was purchased from the Nut Man too.  This one is soft and plush and not at all frightening in appearance which is why I like her.  I am not into the scary Halloween decorations. 

I like pumpkins, black cats, scarecrows and such.  How do you decorate for Halloween?
