How joyous a sunrise this colourful and glorious is in the depths of winter! We enjoyed a few warm (read +5 Celsius) days this week. Had I taken the photos today, however, it would look gloomy.
We woke this morning to -2 Celsius but with a windchill making it feel like -7. Not a bad start to the day. However, as the hours progess, the day is to cool down to -11 Celsius not including the windchill.
I'm joining fellow sky watchers at Sky Watch Friday. Won't you stop by for a viewing of the skies as seen throughout the world?

According to the weatherman on the news at lunch, it is not the additional snow that is a concern here so much as it is the sudden drop in temperatures with lows into the mid negative 20's Celsius.
Southern Alberta, from Red Deer and south, is under a snowfall warning. I spoke with my mom recently, who lives near Lethbridge, and they were nearly snow free because they'd had chinook winds. Chinooks are a warm wind that quickly melts snow. We rarely get them here in Edmonton.
That sure is a beautiful sunrise. It has been a long time since I have seen such a beautiful sight in the morning. I feel inspired to start getting myself up earlier in the morning...
Shirley, what a beautiful sky! I am hoping the meteorologist will be wrong and your temperatures won't drop so much. It's hard to bear the frigid weather along with all the snow you've gotten. Maybe a Chinook will head your way and lend you a warm breeze.
Here in southeastern Alberta, there was a snow warning, but on theweathernetwork.com it says "light snow" so maybe we won't get the expected 25cm. However, we had lots of melting, now the temperatures are dropping, so we'll have ice, with snow over it. Not much fun.
But that is in the future. In the here and now, your photos are gorgeous. Wonderful colour.

Certainly a beautiful sky to wake up to, not so much the drop in temperature or the wind chill factor.
These super colourful skies are heartening at least.
