Moose on the Loose

These moose were seen in the Cypress Hills area in southern Alberta.

These photos were taken on two separate occasions and at different locations both in southern Alberta.  It is rather unusual to see them so far south as they are in abundance in northern Alberta.  I've even seen one in St. Albert trotting through a parking lot.  It is far more likely to see white-tailed deer, sometimes with fawn, in the city as they wander in from the ravines and outlying areas but certainly moose sightings are unusual but becoming more frequent.

The moose I saw in the parking lot was just a young thing. It leapt a six foot fence and scampered down the street. I hope the wildlife officers were able to return it safely to its proper habitat.

Wow, Shirley, amazing they can leap a six foot fence, they look rather cumbersome! We live in Wisconsin, with it's share of deer, but I cannot imagine the consequences of hitting a moose on the road! That said, how interesting to see them up close. ;-)
