Another Snow Day (the dogs have the right idea)

This is the scene this morning.  What this photo doesn't show is the continual fall of snow.
Please ignore the glow on the left.  It's the reflection off my window.

Minutes later, no sun to be seen.  What felt like spring last week, feels like winter again this week.  We had a heavy snowfall warning Thursday and Friday.  They were fairly accurate on that.

If this forecast is any indication, winter is here for a while longer.  Perhaps March will go out like a lion, as it came in like a lamb.  Too soon to tell, though.  It's only the middle of the month.

The dogs have the right idea!
It's a snow day, alternatively, the perfect day to curl up with a blanket and,
in my case, a good book!

Staying warm indoors today.  Hope you are too.

Snowfall Warning Again!!

Taken earlier this fall, I can still repost photos, just not new ones.  :(
Apparently I have used up my allotted space for photos this year but that doesn't mean I have nothing left to say!  Tonight as I was watching a flash mob sing Christmas songs on a Facebook posting, I also noticed that we, Edmonton area, have a snowfall warning with an abnormal temperature trend to tonight and tomorrow.  What's an abnormal temperature trend, you may wonder?  It's when the temperature gets colder during the daytime.  Tomorrow during the day we are expected to drop to -16 Celsius following an overnight low of -12 Celsius.  Add to this cold, we are also expecting snow, and a fair amount.  The following is the official warning:

Warnings

City of Edmonton - St. Albert - Sherwood Park
3:32 PM MST Tuesday 27 November 2012
Snowfall warning for
City of Edmonton - St. Albert - Sherwood Park issued

Heavy snowfall to start early Wednesday with 15 to 25 cm of snowfall expected by Thursday.

A deep Arctic ridge is building down from the Yukon and Northwest Territories bringing below normal temperatures to most of Alberta. Strong winds combined with the cold temperatures will produce extreme wind chill values near -40 in the High Level region by Wednesday morning. At these extreme wind chill values frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 10 minutes.

Overnight an intense upper disturbance from the Pacific will cross the Rockies generating a band of heavy snow that will extend from the Grand Cache and Grande Prairie region through Whitecourt into the Capital region including the city of Edmonton by Wednesday afternoon. The heavy snowfall is expected to taper off by Thursday with snowfall amounts in the 15 to 25 cm range. However snowfall is likely to continue into the weekend for Central Alberta.

Hot chocolate, a warm throw and a good book are looking really good right now!  Stay warm and stay safe!  Looks like snow is in the forecast for the remainder of the week.  (struggling to put on a happy face here....)   On a happy note, I have some very good books lined up to fill the time!

Snowfall Warning in Effect for Edmonton November 7/12

We have a snowfall warning in effect here in Edmonton.  What began as rain in the hours shortly after midnight, soon became snow with ice beneath.  The above photo was taken around 7am this morning.

Above and the following two photos were taken this afternoon.  It has snowed almost continuously ever since.

One of our major thoroughfares was closed to all but those who had snow tires.  Police were on hand to enforce it!  There were semis jackknifed across a road, beneath a bridge and several near misses.  There's about 2 inches of ice beneath all the snow on the roads.  Very treacherous indeed.

My husband picked me up from work this afternoon and said what usually takes 12-15 minutes took him an hour to get there from home.

This is our forecast.

Winter is here.

Spring Storm and Snowfall Warning

Thursday, April 4 was sunny and 16 Celsius here but yesterday we awoke to this sight.  The snow began at 2 am and continued into the afternoon reaching approximately 15 cms accumulation.  I took this photo at about 5 am as I was getting ready for work.  Areas throughout the city had power outages and as I took the transit to work, I saw my area black out as well.  In another area near work, a transformer was on fire so they were without electricity for a while.

Today is sunny and warm.  The accumulated snow on the streets has melted.  (yay!).  I hear, via my hubby, that it was gorgeous in Fort McMurray yesterday and my mom in Southern Alberta informed me it was lovely down her way.  I can't complain, though, as Calgary and Central Alberta got it worse than us.

Happy Easter!  I guess the Easter egg hunts will be held indoors throughout our city.
