Garden II of the Strathcona Garden Tour - Near Ardrossan

a field we passed on our journeys
Garden #2 features a lovely treed drive with the garden to the right through a wrought iron arch way. Ponds and/or water features seem to be the common theme amongst the entries for the tour, though the second last garden we visited didn't have a water feature to my recollection.  I commented to Kim that perhaps the covered hot tub was theirs? (Lol)

One of my favourite items of the second garden we visited (featured here) was a hardscaping element. Curving around the backside of the pond area is a gorgeous dark retaining wall with lanterns for additional ambiance.  Again, the property is surrounded by a mature treescape.  This gardener, who I remember as being remarkably tanned, has been gardening on this site for 35 years.  She has added statuary and other elements to complement her style.

the back garden remained fenced off to the public
my favourite statuary in this garden

love this rock retaining wall

even when clematis is finished flowering, it still has a pretty appeal

the rustic birdhouse sits elevated above a Virgina creeper

Amazed that this dragonfly posed for so long for both Kim and I to photograph.  I entered this photo in the London Drugs photo contest on their Facebook page, in case anyone would like to vote for it.

the melted candles add to the sculptural beauty of this candle holder

you can just make out the path through the arbor

The majority of the trees of the gardens in this tour have lichen or moss growing on them.  I found it quite attractive. The trees, to me, add as much sculptural element to the garden as any other element.

I was looking for some blogs on gardening and this came up. I'm so glad I bumped into you. Lovely garden you were able to visit. I too love the moss that grows so naturally on trees. I think it's so beautifully artistic. I'm having a giveaway if you would like to put your name in. In the mean time I'm going to look at more of your blog. Thank you for having me. Tammy

Hi Shirley, that is one busy garden! I, too, love the stone wall, it really gives a sense of structure. Had to laugh at the melted candles - been there!
