A Sparkle Wonderment - Festival of Trees

Made of glass, bubbly and curved, this tree took first place in the designer competition at the Festival of Trees this last weekend here in Edmonton.  If you've read my previous posts, you know this festival is a fundraiser for one of our local hospitals, University of Alberta Hospital.
Designed by a team at Kasian Architecture, this tree is unique and totally exemplifies the "sparkle" theme for this year's festival.  Every entry was encouraged to submit designs with "sparkle".
A close up of the glass shows the bubbling and curves.  I spoke with a gentleman who works at Panache Glass who told me they supplied the strips of glass with a hole drilled in the center but that the designers melted the glass in a kiln and shaped it around an object to achieve this effect.  The bubbled appearance was something Kasian did as well.
I am somewhat biased in my attachment with this tree as my son works for Kasian but in another city.  Their entry took second place last year in the festival competition and first place this year.
The topper was a point (no pun intended) of discussion for several visitors.  Some really liked it, like myself, and some would have gone with something different but they didn't know what.  I forwarded these photos to my son who thought perhaps clear balls lit from within.  That would look great too!!
Congratulations Kasian on a unique and intriguing entry!  (and Panache too)  Question, how do you store it?
Wednesday evening, previous to the festival's opening, a black tie silent auction (by invitation) is held wherein all the trees, wreaths, and floral arrangements are auctioned off.  I'd like to know who purchased this one!!

I am joining in on the meme Weekend Reflections newtowndailyphoto.blogspot.com/ .  Stop by, won't you?
